11 Lankans to receive prestigious Australia Awards -Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships

The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Bryce Hutchesson today announced that 11 Sri Lankan students will be offered the Australian Government’s prestigious Australia Awards-Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2018.

One Australian will also undertake learning opportunities in Sri Lanka as part of the awards.

“I congratulate the successful applicants, who have been identified for their potential to provide ongoing educational, research and professional links between Sri Lanka and Australia. These are individuals who will over time build a new generation of leaders,” said the High Commissioner.

Each year the Australian Government offers Australia Awards-Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships to high achieving students, researchers and professionals from around the world to study at Australia’s world-class education institutions or undertake a professional development program. The scholarships are internationally-competitive and merit-based. These scholarships are implemented by Australia’s Department of Education and Training. Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also manages a similar Australia Awards scholarships program.

“The Australia Awards-Endeavour Scholarships facilitate the sharing of knowledge, strengthen mutual understanding between Sri Lankan and Australian scholars and build international networks, which continue long after the scholars have returned home. This serves to reinforce our strong and enduring bilateral relations,” said High Commissioner Hutchesson.

The awardees will undertake study or research at the vocational, postgraduate and postdoctoral level or undertake professional development at some of Australia’s most prestigious universities in fields that include medical science, law and public health, mechanical engineering and criminology.

Applications for the 2019 Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship open in April 2018.
