Why you should contribute to the HR community in Sri Lanka

Every professional knows that knowledge is power, the more you know, the better you can perform. The higher your performance levels are, the greater your scope for personal growth. There are many benefits of knowledge sharing mentioned in several research papers, and there are several ways of doing so.

One of our primary intentions of creating HR Sri Lanka is to share knowledge amongst the HR community in Sri Lanka. HR Sri Lanka attempts to create a virtual Community of Practice (CoP). The term Communities of Practices was coined by E. Wenger

Who defines them as “groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and who interacts regularly to learn how to do it better.”

The HR community is Sri Lanka is quite small and consists of people with quite diverse specializations. As a Virtual CoP, HR Sri Lanka aims to connect the community and provide a platform for knowledge sharing and discussion. We are a not a CoP but a website which facilitates a CoP, a CoP is automatically formed when you as HR Professionals interact and communicate with the aim of knowledge sharing and discussion.

Some of the benefits of you contributing to HR Sri Lanka are as follows:

1.    Improve your own knowledge – By writing articles and engaging in discussions, you will have to do research yourself, and hence you will further your own knowledge. Writing is also known to develop ideas and help reflect on them.

2.    Be a though leader - Contributing to HR Sri Lanka also helps you becoming a thought leader or a domain influencer. The articles and discussion posts gives you recognition based on the quality of the content. Write something valuable to the community and you will be noted by all.

3.    Keep yourself up-to-date – HR practices and Policies are ever changing. Selections are increasingly performed based on role-play rather than interviews, employees now can re-allocate their holidays which are something they could not do a few years ago.  You have to be a part of an HR CoP to keep track of these changes and only a Sri Lankan HR CoP can give you information you need relevant to practicing in Sri Lanka.

4.    Discuss controversial topics – There are many controversial HR topics in Sri Lanka like whether the number of holidays in Sri Lanka is too much for productivity or giving local educated professionals better opportunity than professionals who have graduated from foreign universities. The forums in HR Sri Lanka provide a platform to discuss these as a community and weigh both sides of the argument.

5.    Be a part of an evolving community – The aim of HR Sri Lanka is to unite and advance the HR Community. It will make the HR community interconnected and adaptive, and act as a catalyst for growth. Proper participation will make HR practices in Sri Lanka globally competitive and make Sri Lankan HR professionals the best in the world.
